Dopo Ornaghi & Prestinari abbiamo organizzato per Curtis Talwst Santiago la seconda esperienza con il mosaico creata appositamente da senzatitolo per un artista.
Curtis Talwst Santiago, che attualmente vive e lavora a Monaco, in Germania, è stato in residenza a Ravenna per una settimana. Abbiamo individuato l’atelier in cui approfondire la tecnica del micromosaico, che interessa particolarmente a Curtis nella sua attuale ricerca artistica.
Oltre ad organizzare un corso specifico nell’atelier della mosaicista Annalisa Marcucci, abbiamo costruito un percorso fra i siti storici per cui la città è nota in tutto il mondo, e alcuni laboratori di artisti contemporanei.
Non è mancata nell’esperienza anche un’incursione a Faenza, alla scoperta del materiale della tradizione locale, in una giornata fra le eccellenze ceramiche del territorio.
Curtis Talwst Santiago (1979, Edmonton, Alberta) ha studiato come apprendista di Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun. Santiago ha esposto a livello internazionale in istituzioni come The Drawing Center, New York, NY; FLAG Art Foundation, New York, NY; The New Museum, New York, NY; The Eli and Edythe Broad Museum presso la Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI; Institute of Contemporary Art della Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia; University of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan, Canada; Pérez Art Museum Miami, Miami, FL;Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, Canada; Art Gallery of Alberta Edmonton, Canada; Osage Gallery, Hong Kong e SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah, GA; tra gli altri. L’artista è stato incluso nella Biennale SITE Santa Fe SITELines.2018, Casa Tomada, a Santa Fe, NM, la Biennale d’Arte inaugurale di Toronto 2019 a Toronto, Canada, e ha partecipato alla Biennale di Dakar 2018 e 2022 in Senegal. Nel settembre 2021 è stato Artist in Residence al Black Rock Senegal di Kehinde Wiley e nel 2022 è stato visiting professor e AIR presso l’Università del Tennessee. Attualmente è membro attivo del consiglio di amministrazione del Drawing Center di New York. Le sue opere sono in molteplici collezioni museali permanenti. Santiago si considera decentralizzato e attualmente vive e lavora a Monaco, in Germania.

This week Curtis Talwst Santiago started the second custom mosaic residency by senzatitolo. The artist, who currently lives and works in Munich, Germany, is in residence in Ravenna for a week. He is working with micro mosaic with Annalisa Marcucci.
He will visit the historical sites for which the city is known world wide as well as our selection of contemporary mosaic workshops. The residency includes a day in Faenza visiting different ceramic labs to discover this material and its local tradition.

Santiago considers himself decentralized and is currently living and working in Munich, Germany.
